Remember, Remember

Remember remember the fifth of
November
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason why gunpowder,
treason
Should ever be forgot…

This weekend, England celebrated Guy Fawkes Day. On this day in 1605, there was a failed attempt called the Gunpowder Plot to assassinate King James I by blowing up Houses of Parliament. Guy Fawkes was caught with the explosives under the House of Parliament when the guards found them. They arresseted him and he was hung, drawn and quartered for treason. So England celebrates the failure of the plot on November 5th.

From the flat, we could see firworks all around us for hours. It was so amazing! I have never seen anything like it. And I had no idea that England had no rules on fireworks and anyone who feels like it anywhere they want can shoot them off. We had neighbors shooting them off right next to us. So different from the US.

And we, of course, watched V for Vendetta.
